Tolerance- Inspired By Jewaira

The understanding of Islam which our parents and grandparents had was from their schooling/kuttab, or their parents. And because word of mouth or tradition were the main methods for spreading knowledge, if something said was against the person’s sensibility, they would not be eager to spread it.

The reach which media has today was not available- so no one would hold a microphone and preach endlessly about how evil the West is, and even if they did, their reach would be minimal. Mass media has helped evil spread.

"Mass media has helped evil spread."

Are you saying that the "knowledge of islam" is evil? :/

No 3baid she's saying that people who say crazy things that go against people's general common sense and religious sensibilities (like extremism and intolerance towards others) would have been checked from spreading in the days before mass media.

Sa7 Sheebs? :)

Gigi, quickly
Mmmm So who is accused here? the media? The media is a money animal. People tend to love taboo subjects, and media tends to exploit it for more money. What they don't know that such action creates negative sociatal behavior. I do not need to dig deeper in this subject. Just take a look at where we stand right now. I think almost all taboo subjects in the past are no longer taboo anymore. Good or bad? In my opinion it is the beggining of the downfall. Where is the shimmering light of hope.

What does this have to do with tolerance? hehe
Sad but so true Sheba. Media is open for all. Anyone can say whatever, without their words having to go through channels of verification. People trust what media feeds them blindly. Like the internet, and unlike books, no editorial board checks these words for their accuracy, which results in the mis-information that we are being fed.

No one bothers to read a book to sift the truth from all these lies anyway.
I totally agree with you =/

And where's your reddish blog?! Take it back!!

My God! Use your sensibility!

It is not the media who is to blame, it is those who do not stop to think.
True! However: there is another side to this. Just how Mass Media can work negatively, that can also counterpart with its positive attributes in modern day society.

What worries me isn't the content of the msg, in this case "Evil" but the people who control this information.
Check this quote out:

" I have the greatest admiration for your propaganda. Propaganda in the West is carried out by experts who have had the best training in the world -- in the field of advertizing -- and have mastered the techniques with exceptional proficiency ... Yours are subtle and persuasive; ours are crude and obvious ... I think that the fundamental difference between our worlds, with respect to propaganda, is quite simple. You tend to believe yours ... and we tend to disbelieve ours. "
