Back to Normal Kuwaiti Issues...

Nigeria Anyone?

According to insurance companies who insure our oil refineries, Kuwait is second to Nigeria in deterioration of our oil facilities.

Kuwait has also made it into the Top of The Pops of corruption, and we were compared to impoverished countries like Sri Lanka.

Now, our royal family is fueding about who gets to be Emir.

Honestly, i have always known that we will not be able to live in Kuwait for long, but I always thought that it would be because Kuwait would turn into an Islamic country (I.e. Ruler + Shoora) and our liberties including the Constitution would be taken from us.

Never would i have invisaged that our guardians would bring the end of this country to us. Feels like a custody battle after a bitter divorce

Now is the time when we reflect and wish we had privatized, liberalized, constitutionalized, and unified.

I Love You Kuwait. I pray that this tarnish would end soon. Please don't die on me.

P.S. Wheres superman?

Interesting

1. Trading Places: The Islamists are backing the "Al-Salims" with the Emir because the government who has diligently and historically backed them (the Islamists), has switched sides to the moderates and merchants (i.e. our version of Republicans), for reasons which i imagine are related to international acceptance (i.e. Uncle Sam's approval).

2. Dillema: Independent Kuwaities (us) who are becoming more and more extinct are unhappy about the way Sheikh Saad is being treated (i.e. removed by Al-Ahmads and used by Al-Salims). But we're (i'm) in a dillema because Tabtabai and his gang are with the Salims.

And the Good News

1. We have a quasi democracy within our Monarchy.

2. Al-Jazeera is a tool we have found good use for.

3. We may learn from all this and put systems in place in case this kind of vaccum of power or tug of war happens again.

4. No one was exhiled to Switzerland.

5. No one is going to black list a whole family of 5000 from Kuwait because they stood with that Emir or this one.

Allah, Al-Wa6an, Al-Emir?

Crisis

This is the second biggest crisis we've been through as Kuwaities, the biggest being the annexation of Kuwait by Iraq.

Yes, bigger than manakh.

Allah yaster & Allah ya7fethech ya Kuwaitna.

Resolution

I will not get married to the person I love, but i will live with him, for reasons i don't feel like writing about right now.

Monarchy

Monarchies are usually very easy when it comes to whos next, but in our circumstance, it has become a challenge. The challenge is stability, and here is how I suggest we reinstate peace to our beloved country, Kuwait.

In spite of the ins and outs of whos the good, the bad, and the ugly, political and royal decorum must be observed.

1. Sheikh Saad, the current Emir should take his oath in a private session of Parliament (i.e. without the presence of live Tv).

2. In the same session, he is to announce his Crown Prince, who has been the obvious third in line, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, since the illness of the late Emir and the present Emir.

3. A few days later, Sheikh Saad anounces that he will no longer be Emir, and appoints the Crown Prince as Emir.

Huh?

Went to pick up my sis with the driver, & i was late by hmm 30 minutes. I arrived to her house and called her. Her daughter picked up, and said "ummy ga3da tetbakhar la2an ta2akhartai 3elaiha (mom is fumigating herself with expensive wood because you were late)".

Me: Ummech ga3da tetbakhar 3ashan ana ta2akhart?
Niece: Yes, hehe!
Me: Okay, love you.

Me (to driver): "Driver" chaywer chaywer
(paused to think if he knows what i said)
Me (again): roo7 fog ta7at fog ta7at

Bored me then realized how silly of a word "chaywer" is and i started to wonder where we got it from? Do people still use it? Is it Bahraini (sure sounds like it)? And why do we repeat instructions twice when it comes to domestic help??

What Diid I Miss?

I was talking to a very good friend of mine, and she sounded down. Her boyfriend had been missing for four days, and when she finally got through to him, she found out that something very bad has happened to his nephew.
Thats fine, and may God help them through this, but i asked her "why didn't he call you or pick up his phone during these four days?"
This wasn't the first time this happens to her or to other girls I know, recently. Which made me think, what happened to men/women calling their loved ones for comfort? Isn't these times of crisis when we should be needing each other most? Why are men allowing themselves more and more reasons to "cave in"?
